Moving to Switzerland

Switzerland is known as one of the hardest countries to move to because of their strict conditions they have in place for immigrants. It is not impossible however, and many people successfully make the move, integrating into the work and family life with ease. The education system is known as one of the best and most advanced in the world and is one of the main reasons people opt for moving to Switzerland.

The different regions of the country have very different education systems so it would be imperative to investigate the system of the region you will be staying so that you understand how best to integrate your child. If you are thinking of moving to Switzerland, the language barrier is another thing to consider and Switzerland has some international schools and private schools that are perfect for foreigners who do not yet speak the native language.

You will be required to present your residence permit and your children's health certificate when applying to a Swiss school. Contacting the local municipality of the region and your country's embassy for further information regarding enrollment and just general things would greatly help to streamline this process. These authorities will be able to help you make moving to Switzerland as hassle-free as possible and this includes your children's introduction to the education system.

Helpful Tips:

You are allowed to stay in Switzerland for three months while seeking permanent employment. This would be an ideal time to use and familiarize yourself and your children with local customs and also research school options in your area. Some grades will require a bridging course before continuing regular schooling for foreign students so find out about that as well.

Speak to other foreigners and ask about their experiences and if they have helpful advice. In this way you can learn first hand whether it would be better to place your child in an international school, private school or directly into the public school system.

Have all your paperwork and official documentation ready when going for enrollments or applications. This will ease the process and eradicate any delays due to incorrect or missing documents.
