This is because there are fewer young people entering the work force, and the older ones currently available will be retiring soon or will want to reduce their working hours sooner than later.
Sometimes employers need to terminate employees for various reasons, and this is always costly on their part. Apparently, the cost of replacing an employee stands at about 50% of their yearly income, which is very expensive.
